Every host with the most and hostess with the mostest will be serving ginger-infused beverages this season. It adds just the right amount of festive zing to anything from lemonade to club soda to spiced cider (let your imagination go). And—bonus!—it’s actually pretty easy to make your own ginger syrup.
You’ll need 1 small ginger root (3-5 inches long, available in the produce section), 2 cups of sugar and 1 cup of water. Peel the root with a vegetable peeler and grate it into a small saucepan. Add the sugar and water; boil until the sugar completely dissolves. Remove pan from heat and, once it’s cool, strain the syrup (removing all the grated ginger) into a clean glass bottle or jar.
Add a little or a lot to any beverage for an instant ginger zip. Cheers!
