Design for the Masses- not just the millionaires...

Good Design isn't just about having dollars, right?  While hiring locals in Rio de Janeiro, two Dutch artists employed residents to paint their own homes a colorful fragmented spectrum-- voila, jobs creation combined with neighborhood beautification.  Celebrating that idea and moving it forward into urban planning, is the focus of "Design with the other 90%: Cities" an exhibition organized by New York's Cooper-Hewitt museum.

Running from October 15 through January 9, 2012 it showcases life altering projects taking place for the poor around the globe.  Highlights range from portable pharmacy kits to a bicycle-powered phone charger to Bangladesh's floating community centers.  See it all at the United Nations, which is hosting this display while the Cooper-Hewitt is under renovation.
